However, as for political correctness, I would tend to differ.

Mainstream media can freely attack/defame/criticize Christian symbols and such because Christians gave up on fanaticism centuries ago. There's no retribution, so Christian icons are fair game. Some Muslims, on the other hand, are still living in another era (and this is not surprising considering Islam is relataively young compared to Christianity) and are therefore dangerous to offend. Might makes right and all that. This is unfortunate because Islam would probably provide fertile ground for ridicule -- as do other organized religions. I'd be very interested in what South Park has to say about Islam were the writers comfortable in doing so. I recall a hysterical episode where they taunted Scientologists/Tom Cruise, which surprised me somewhat considering the Church of Scientology's rabid dedication to suing anybody and everybody for defamation. Perhaps the Scientologists are mwllowing out?

Viacom and the like probably don't want to offend Muslims because the Arab world makese a large part of their viewership. It's more about ratings than it is about political correctness. Coca-Cola (or some major soft drink) has been in the uncomfortable position of deciding whether or not to sell their product in Israel because certain Arab states have threatened to boycott them should they do so. If I'm not mistaken, the soda manufacturer worked around this problem by selling Coca Cola in Israel under a different name and differently-looking can/bottle.Pinkohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03922617113174437846noreply@blogger.com
